Frequently Asked Questions

Rifle and part orders

Question: What are your lead times?

Answer: Check out our leadtimes page to view the most recent updates on lead times for barrels. Barrelled actions can be up to 12+ weeks. We are working with some recurring orders that can help drop these times down. Rifles can be up to 4 months as they take more parts and time to get everything in but we have been able to fall under that time with most builds.

Question: Do you offer stocks and chassis?

Answer: Yes, we offer a variety of stocks and chassis to suit your needs! We often have Manners PH and Manners LRH stocks readily available on our shelves. Additionally, we sometimes stock MDT Hunt 26 chassis and KRG Whiskeys.

If you’re looking for something specific, we can also special order stocks and chassis from top brands like Manners, MDT, KRG, and XLR. Our goal is to provide you with a one-stop shop for your rifle customization needs, ensuring you get exactly what you want for your build.

At Straight Jacket Armory, we’re here to help you find the perfect fit for your rifle. If you’re unsure which stock or chassis is right for you, feel free to reach out to our team for guidance.

Question: What actions can you pre-fit for?

Answer: The most common actions we pre-fit for are Sig Cross, Zermatt Origin, Aero Precision, American Rifle Company, Falkor defense, Impact Precision, Kelbly’s, and Terminus. We can also turn pre-fits for Curtis Customs, Defiance, Lone Peak, Seekins Precision, and Accuracy International. We have recently added the Weatherby 307 to actions that can be pre-fit for.

Question: What are the specs on your reamers?

Answer: All of our reamers except PRC are Sammi Spec. Our PRC reamers are AW2 spec reamers in order to eliminate bolt click. Here is an updated Reamer List that can help you see what we have available including freebore options on certain chambers.

Question: Can I order a pre-fit barrel for my Remington 700?

Answer: You cannot order a barrel alone to pre-fit to your action from us. We can’t guarantee the rifle will shoot or feed properly without making sure the action is trued, and often if the bolt is blueprinted. We also recommend a skim bed for maximum accuracy.

Custom Rifles and gun work

Question: What is the custom throating option?

Answer: Some cartridges have a much longer free bore in them for handloaded rounds that have been seated just far enough that they can still feed out of the magazine. The bullet might jump farther than you want, or vice versa. We can take the dummy round seated to the max of your magazine and put the freebore to where you desire.

Question: Can you cut the chamber to the specific freebore I want if I send you the dimensions?

Answer: Yes, we can cut a custom throat, but it requires you to send us a dummy round. This dummy round should be set to the exact length you plan to seat for your reloads, without powder or primer. This ensures we have precise measurements to tailor the chamber to your specifications.

At Straight Jacket Armory, we take pride in delivering custom solutions that meet your exact needs. If you have any questions about preparing your dummy round or need further assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to our team. We’re here to help you get the perfect fit for your setup.

Question: Can you pre-fit my action that I don’t see on your website?

Answer: Yes, we can often help rebarrel actions that aren’t listed on our website. However, for actions not listed—and some that are—we will need you to send in the action to properly fit the barrel. If you’re unsure whether we can rebarrel your specific rifle, we recommend checking with us to confirm.

Expert rifle shooting and hunting questions

Question: Can I use a long action with 6.5 PRC?

Answer: Yes, you can use a long action with 6.5 PRC, but it’s important to consider potential feeding challenges. Many shooters prefer a long action because it allows them to seat their reloads further out than a short action permits. While this can improve certain performance aspects, it may require some adjustments or troubleshooting to ensure smooth feeding.

At Straight Jacket Armory, we understand the unique preferences and needs of every shooter. If you’re considering this setup and have questions about compatibility or adjustments, our team is happy to assist you in finding the best solution for your rifle build.

Question: What is the best action to use for my rifle build?

Answer: Choosing the best action for your rifle build depends on your specific needs and intended use. Key considerations include the type of shooting you’ll be doing, the caliber you’re selecting, and your desired performance. To determine the best option, we’ll typically ask questions like, “What do you want to do with this rifle?” This helps us recommend an action that perfectly suits your goals.
